Caribbean Vacations: Jamaica -- A Slice of Paradise
When looking for Caribbean vacations, you will certainly have no shortage of magnificent destinations to choose from. However, one of the most popular destinations in the Caribbean for both honeymooners and holiday makers is Jamaica. Carribean vacations can be a spell-binding experience for one and all. (Tongue in cheek as ‘Carribean’ is a common spelling error).
Although Jamaica is the third largest island in the Caribbean it only spans about 150 miles long and 50 miles wide. It is situated less than 100 miles south of Cuba and a just over 100 miles from Hispaniola, the island on which Haiti and the Dominican Republic is found. Formally a possession of Spain, and more recently of the United Kingdom, it is now an independent nation.
Despite Jamaica being a small nation, it has had a large cultural influence on the world. Reggae, ska, dancehall, and reggae are just a few of the many musical varieties that have originated in Jamaica. Jungle music in the United Kingdom and hip-hop in the United States are also largely accredited to the Jamaican immigrant population. The Rastafari movement or Rasta also had its beginnings in Jamaica.
Like most other Caribbean islands, Jamaica is home to a number of beautiful beaches, making it a real island paradise. There are a number of outdoor activities such as diving, parasailing, boating, swimming, snorkeling, jet and water skiing, and surfing. Fishing is another popular pastime in Jamaica.
Not interested in fun in the sun? Try the nightlife. You can dance the night away in a number of clubs and visit the bars to try some of the local drinks. The restaurants serve both foreign and cultural cuisine. And the island is a shopper’s paradise.
For honeymooning couples there are magnificent honeymoon resorts such as Coyaba Beach Resort and Club, Sans Souci Resort and Spa and The Ritz-Carlton Golf and Spa Resort.
For those planning a ‘Carribean vacation’, a Caribbean vacation or a honeymoon you can travel to Jamaica by air or take a romantic cruise through the Caribbean islands. Before traveling check on the sort of travel paperwork that is required for your visit to Jamaica and make sure you research the many wonderful things you can do while there. Be prepared to be charmed and make Jamaica your own island paradise.
